How do I direct play back to my MIDI keyboard?

Directing play back to a MIDI keyboard

In order to direct play back to a MIDI keyboard, you will generally need a MIDI interface.

Make sure you have the correct device for access to your keyboard selected in Tools: Options, MIDI, Devices Used by play back. It should be the only device selected. If you do not have the device needed as a selection, then this is not supported on your system or has not been installed correctly. Install/reinstall the drivers for the out port of your sound card.

Diagnosing USB MIDI Interface problems

Here are some tips for diagnosing problems with a USB MIDI interface.

• When having setup problems, you should select only one device for play back during the testing phase. Any devices that fail to open during this process are either a) in use by other software, or b) not setup properly.
  
  
• When USB devices don't work, the most important thing to check is the manufacturer's installation instructions. Make sure that you installed the drivers in the properly recommended sequence (either before or after connecting the device, depending on the instructions).
  
  
• When a USB device fails to work correctly, it can be caused by a power issue. If the ISB device does not provide its own power source, and it requires more power than your computer can provide, it will fail to work correctly. It can also cause instability on your computer. Connecting the device via a USB hub is the usually the easiest way to fix this.
  
  
• In general, you should never echo keyboard input back out to the keyboard. This can create an infinite loop if the keyboard also echoes MIDI data that it receives. This can prevent the connections from working properly.
